Privacy Policy
ExFree · Last updated 15 October 2026
ExFree is operated by Oskar Bruce, United Kingdom.
ExFree (“we”) helps you clear an ex out of your phone and stay no-contact. It was built so that everything personal stays with you. This policy explains exactly what the app does with your data.
In short: your data stays on your iPhone. There are no accounts and no ExFree servers. Your photos, names and face data never leave your phone. We collect only anonymous usage events, with no personal information, and we don't track you across other apps.
Everything stays on your device
- ExFree has no accounts, no sign-in and no backend. Your answers, names, streak, check-ins, journal and vow are stored only in the app on your iPhone.
- Deleting the app deletes this data, apart from anything in your own device or iCloud backup.
Photos
- With your permission, ExFree reads your photo library on your device to help you find photos of your ex. Photos are never uploaded.
- Photos you delete or hide are handled by iOS Photos; deleting always asks you to confirm in the system dialog.
Face data
- To find your ex in your photos, the app compares faces on your device. The numeric face data this produces (embeddings) exists only in memory while a scan runs. It is never saved and never uploaded, and it is gone when the scan ends.
- No biometric identifiers are stored or shared, with us or anyone else.
The Vault
- Photos you move to the Vault are stored in the app's private container on your iPhone, protected by iOS file protection and Face ID.
- They are included in your own device or iCloud backup, like other app data. We never receive them.
Contacts
- Contacts access is used only when you choose to deal with your ex's number, to find their contact card so you can block or delete it. Your contacts never leave your phone.
Notifications
- Reminders and check-ins are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. No push service or server is involved.
Purchases
- Subscriptions are bought and processed by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We never see your payment details.
- To check whether your subscription is active, ExFree may use RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives only an anonymous app user ID and your purchase receipts. No name, email or other personal information.
Analytics
We collect anonymous usage events through PostHog to improve the app. They contain no personal information, photos or names, IP addresses are discarded, and we don't track you across other apps.
Children
ExFree is for people aged 17 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 17.
Your rights (UK and EU)
Because your personal data stays on your device, you control it directly: you can edit or delete it in the app, or delete the app. If you have any question about your data or want to exercise a data protection right, email us and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local supervisory authority.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the date above.
